Bass Strait’s Forgotten Island
This beautiful rugged island offers a totally different feel to its more, well known cousin, King Island. Located in the South East of Bass Strait this island features picturesque beaches accompanied with stunning mountain ranges. It’s also famous for its island produce and Shortstop Jet Charter (Operators of Melbourne’s Gooney Bird) are excited about showing this hidden part of Australia to its customers.
You will travel down in our beautifully restored DC-3, the flight is significantly longer than our King Island Flight and tracks over an absolutely beautiful passage. On departure from Essendon Airport we will set course to the South East, directly over the CBD then onwards over Melbourne’s sprawling South Eastern suburbs, tracking just to the North of Westernport Bay, French Island then directly over our famous Wilsons Promontory before landing at Whitemark Airport Flinders Island.
On arrival you will be met by your coach and guide who will take you to Trousers Point for a brief stroll prior to arriving at the Furneaux Tavern for lunch whilst overlooking Franklin Sound at Lady Barron. Your A la carte menu will have a choice of; Entree’s: Panfryed Scallops with peanuts and bacon or Mini Vegetable Lasagne. Mains: Chargrilled Wallaby Fillet drizzled with a honey and balsamic reduction with cheese polenta & roasted vegetables, Marinated 4 point Lamb Rack with redcurrant wine sauce with sweet potato puree, beetroot marmalade & green vegetables or Panfryed local fish of the day in a lemon white wine and caper sauce with buttered chat potatoes & green vegetables. Dessert: includes either Vanilla Bean Panna cotta with Flinders Is. Berry Coulis or Flinders Island Rhubarb & Apple Crumble.
After lunch your coach will take you on a tour to Vinegar Hill for a fantastic panoramic view of the islands to the south. The tour then moves through to Lackrana and the soldier settlement farming region before a short walk at Settlement Point. Then returning to the aircraft for the sunset flight home. Flight times are approximately 1 hour 55 minutes each way.
